The Independence Day weekend started in unbelievable fashion for the St Catherine’s community with the 60th Anniversary celebration at Grand Resort Lagonissi.  It was great to see over 600 of our community joining together in an evening of true “Excellence and Happiness” – from the photographic memories of the past backed by the beautiful voice of IB2 student Natalia Chilal singing “The Way We Were”; from the current (and future) images of our school backed by the effervescent  IB2 choir singing Wendy Raikopoulos’ lyrical variation of “Everybody wants to be a Cat”; from the professional talents of “Penny and the Swingin’ Cats” to the constant dancing of staff and parents – it was all in all a most memorable evening.  A huge thank you to the Grand Resort for all their support and also to staff member Deborah Eleftheriou and parent Olga Botonaki for their Herculean organisation efforts in setting it up!

Another event last week that grew great praise from staff, parents and students alike was the visit of Simon Leigh, a well-known Addiction Counsellor and presenter form the UK.  This no-holds-barred approach recounting his own battle against addiction certainly struck a chord with the audience of whatever age and life experience.  If you want to find out more about him go on to his website – Simon Leigh

Congratulations are also due to our own Mrs. Yvonne McDermott, Head of Humanities, in the Upper School who has just been appointed as IBO Deputy Chief Examiner for Psychology – a real feather in both her cap and that of St. Catherine’s.

I must also say bravo to Mr. Nick Gibbins, our ICT Network Manager, who completed the Olympia Marathon on Sunday in the incredible time of 3 hours 14 minutes and 10 seconds finishing 5th overall!  This was achieved even with the blister he acquired dancing on the Friday night!  We look forward to him breaking the 3 hour mark in the not too distant future!

With the Easter holiday fast approaching I would also like to flag up two charity events.  Firstly a reprise of our very successful  “Hoops for Hope” basketball tournament on Saturday 8th April and also a Football Exhibition Match on Saturday 6th May featuring the 2004 Greece European Championship winning team!
