At St Catherine’s British School we consider year 10 to be the starting point of the educational philosophy that will prepare our successful students for their studies at top universities around the world.

At Key Stage 4, St. Catherine’s students undertake a programme of study leading towards 9 or 10 IGCSE’s or GCSE’s. The 20 subjects currently on offer are built around a compulsory core comprising Mathematics, English Language, English Literature, one Foreign Language, all three Sciences and one Humanity. This core enables students to make a smooth transition later onto the IB Diploma course, while ensuring that in effect no career doors are closed. In keeping with the National Curriculum of England and Wales, ICT and PE are compulsory at Key Stage 4, while a wide variety of additional elective subjects in the creative arts, the humanities and modern languages ensures that there is something for everybody.

Above all, we aim to foster in our Key Stage 4 students an appreciation of the value of independent learning.

Key Stage 4 students enjoy participating in a wide variety of extra-curricular activities, and can be found after school in venues ranging from the football field to the drama studio to the music rooms. Key Stage 4 students also traditionally involve themselves with the popular St. Catherine’s Debate Club and are strongly encouraged to participate in the International Bronze and Silver Award programmes. As part of these awards the students are required to complete several challenging weekend hikes in the beautiful Greek mountains and also take part in a range of physical activities, develop new skills and participate in volunteering projects.
