Happy New Year – Kali Chronia
I trust that you all managed an enjoyable, festive family Christmas whilst also finding time to recharge the batteries ready for an exciting new year ahead! The Autumn Term certainly ended in spectacular fashion with the brilliant production of “Blue Stockings” and a multitude of Christmas shows across the whole school. As I said at one of them, the joy of being Headmaster of St. Catherine’s is the opportunity to witness the sheer good fun and innocence of the Nursery and Reception performances as well as the skills and sheer good fun of the Upper School shows. Thanks to our students I certainly ended the term in true festive spirit.
However school was not completely devoid of activities over the Christmas vacation – we held another successful Sports Camp in the first week as well as a new initiative – a two day Drama workshop which also proved extremely popular.
As always our return to school in January sees our Year 11 and Year 13 embark on their major mock examinations. If they had not already realised it, the “real thing” in the summer is now just round the corner! Indeed I have been most impressed by the approach of both year groups – clearly they have spent a good deal of time over their holiday preparing for their examinations. Whilst on the academic front, I am delighted to report that this week, three of our IB2 students have received offers from either Oxford or Cambridge universities following an extremely competitive selection process. Congratulations go to:
Michael Batavanis – Medicine at Cambridge
Despina Lazarou – Human Sciences at Oxford
William Sutton – Geography at Oxford
Of course there is still a lot of work to do before they seal their places but the offer is just the boost they need at the beginning of a tough year ahead.
I am delighted to say that good progress is being maintained on the New Building Development. As you know we went out to tender for the Building Contractor in November and by the end of the year, we received the all-important First Approval for the actual Building Permit! Before February half term we should have sealed the Building Permit Final Approval and appointed a Building Contractor to commence Phase One of our Development – an exciting year for St. Catherine’s is just beginning!
Wishing you all the very best for you and your family for 2018!
